What I Believe

Here's what I know to be true: your body isn't broken, it's burdened. When symptoms show up, it's not a sign of failure. It's your body telling you it's carrying too much—too much stress, too many toxins, too many imbalances that have been building beneath the surface. And when you start addressing what's actually weighing it down instead of just managing symptoms, everything can shift.

I also believe that your daily choices shape your future health more than we're taught to recognize. The small decisions you make today; what you eat, how you move, how you manage stress, what you expose yourself to, they're not just affecting how you feel right now. They're building the foundation for the body you'll have in 10, 20, 30 years. And that matters more than any single supplement or quick fix ever could.

But here's the thing: there's no one-size-fits-all approach to health. What works for someone else's body might not work for yours. Bio-individual health is the only way forward, understanding your unique imbalances, your body's needs, and creating a plan that actually fits your life. That's why I use functional labs to see what's happening beneath the surface, so we're not guessing. We're building a protocol based on what your body is actually telling us.

My Story

For most of my life, I lived on autopilot. I assumed health was something that just happened, until my body sent me a wake-up call I couldn't ignore.

Senior year of college brought panic attacks, relentless anxiety, and a system that offered me a prescription after a 15-minute conversation. I wasn't against medication if I truly needed it, but I wanted to understand why this was happening before deciding how to address it. That question led me to functional testing that revealed mold colonization in my body, gut overgrowths, and a minerals panel that showed a body under serious stress. A couple years later, a potential thyroid autoimmune diagnosis added another layer.

But here's what those experiences really taught me: my body wasn't broken, it was burdened. And once I started addressing the root causes instead of just managing symptoms, everything shifted.

I've been walking this path for nine years now, but my "why" crystallized when a family member was diagnosed with a chronic illness. As I stood by their side and watched them navigate treatment, I started researching. What I learned shook me: chronic disease rates are staggering. Some studies suggest that 1 in 2 people will face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. One in two.

But here's what also became clear: I've seen people with chronic illnesses reverse disease states by changing lifestyle factors—sometimes on their own, sometimes alongside Western medicine. I'm not against conventional care. But the impact our daily choices have on our long-term wellbeing isn't emphasized nearly enough.

In that moment, I knew I wanted to be part of the other half. I wanted to take a hands-on approach to my health and live in a way that hopefully reduces my risk of ever facing a diagnosis like that.

Pilea Wellness Philosophy

Here's the truth: if lifestyle changes can help people find healing after diagnosis, why wait? Why not build that foundation now; when you have the energy, the capacity, and the choice? This isn't about living in fear. It's about living with intention. It's about taking responsibility for your health through regular check-ins, uncovering imbalances before they become problems, and making bio-individualized adjustments that actually fit your life.

It's about choosing sustainable changes now over drastic overhauls in the face of crisis. Because whether you're working to reduce disease risk or navigating a diagnosis, foundations matter. And the lifestyle you build now will serve you either way.

Where I am Today

I'm still on this journey—actively learning, adjusting, and committing to choices that support long-term health. My labs aren't perfect. I'm still monitoring my lab tests, changing my movement routines, and making small sustainable shifts in diet that I can maintain for the long haul.

But I'm not going back. I've seen what's possible when you stop living reactively and start building intentionally. I'm creating a body and a life that will serve me for decades, not just help me survive today.

That's why I became an Integrative Health Practitioner—not because I have all the answers, but because I'm walking this path and want to share my journey as an example for others.

Who I am Beyond This Work

I'm learning to be present in my life. I used to operate in "chased by a lion" mode constantly—even while knitting. Now I'm practicing being the turtle: steady, intentional, getting everything done without burning out.

You'll find me deep in my crafting era (knitting, crocheting, imperfect junk journaling), walking with my husband and our three-legged dog Olive, crying over rescue dog Instagram accounts, and getting lost in bookstores. I've been told I wear my heart on my sleeve—I'm empathetic, honest, and heartfelt in how I approach this work and life.
